About the company

I am a consultant to the chemical, pharmaceutical and allied industries. As an expert in the discovery, scale-up and manufacture of bioactive molecules and fine chemicals, I help clients solve problems with an emphasis on developing or improving processes. I also specialize in project management and information science applied to chemistry.

With a Lic.C. degree from the Universidad de Málaga (Spain) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Calgary (Canada), I have over 20 years of postgraduate work experience in academia, government and industry. Prior to founding Derek McPhee and Associates I have held a variety of positions in industry, including those of VP of  AstaTech Canada inc.,  Director of Chemistry of Astatech Inc., Senior Research Chemist with Brantford Chemicals Inc. (now Apotex Pharmachem Inc.) and before that, I held a variety of R&D positions within the different divisions of Crompton Corporation (formerly CK Witco and Uniroyal). My experience includes all phases of chemical manufacture, including development of analytical techniques and specifications, bioactive molecule discovery, process research, scale-up, process optimization and production, as well as the corresponding regulatory environments.

I am based in Canada's Technology Triangle in Southern Ontario, less than an hour away from Canada's largest airport, so I consult worldwide. I am also within an hour's distance from six major universities, where I can draw upon the human and equipment resources needed to complete any project.

Through my firm, Derek McPhee and Associates, I have access to a worldwide resource base of skilled professional colleagues, thus ensuring that the expertise required for each project is available to our clients.
